News 4 Reporter David Cruz Arrested On Suspicion Of DWI

SAN ANTONIO -- A local television news reporter was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated early Friday morning, according to police.
David Cruz, a reporter and former anchor at News 4 WOAI was pulled over by a San Antonio police officer about 1 a.m. on Loop 410 near Interstate 10, according to a police report.
The officer pulled the reporter's vehicle over after allegedly cutting off and nearly hitting the patrol car, according to the report.
After performing a sobriety test on Cruz, the officer arrested the reporter and transported him to the Municipal Court building for magistration, according to the report. The 56-year-old refused to take a Breathalyzer test and passed out in a bathroom, according to the report.
In an e-mail statement to KSAT 12 News at about 4:30 p.m., Cruz apologized to the community and resigned his position at News 4 WOAI.
"I wish to apologize to the viewers of San Antonio for my poor judgement which led to this incident of which I am personally ashamed and will not try to defend," Cruz wrote. "It was irresponsible and inexcusable on my part and for this I am truly sorry. Since I have not upheld the trust viewers have placed in me, I have decided to resign my position at WOAI effective immediately."
In an e-mail statement to KSAT 12 News at about 4:50 p.m., News 4 WOAI News Director Aaron Ramey accepted Cruz's resignation.
"We appreciate David taking responsibility for his actions and we have accepted his resignation," Ramey wrote.
