A man upset with his wife's care shot and killed her doctor outside a medical complex Friday, police said.

The shooting happened at about 1:15 p.m., at the Sonterra Medical Park at 255 East Sonterra on the city's north side. The doctor, 47-year-old Julie Abbott, died of her injuries at 2:27 p.m., at University Hospital, according to police.

SAPD Officer Michael Blanquiz, a 7-year-veteran of the police department, was patrolling nearby and responded to the scene to find the shooter standing over the victim, according to police. When the officer approached the scene, the shooter made a move toward the officer, who opened fire, hitting the shooter multiple times, said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.

The shooter, identified as Timothy McCloskey, was transported to University Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

The suspects's wife was not injured in the gunfire and was being questioned by police.

Blanquiz has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings, according to the release.

Abbott, along with her husband of 28 years, were very active in at the Community Bible Church, said Pastor Robert Emmitt. She was also involved with several ministries and bible study groups, Emmitt said.
