No Child Left Behind Failing To Make Grade

POSTED: Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Despite No Child Left Behind, plenty of kids across Texas and San Antonio are still being left behind.

Thirty-four percent of Texas high school students drop out, but according to a study just released, San Antonio ISD beats that average with 52 percent.

That means that just over half of those high school students are left with a lifetime of lost opportunities.

Also, they'll earn about $9,000 a year less than high school graduates will, and contribute to the $31 billion in lost wages that impact the states' economy.

Our kids aren't being engaged in school when they have to worry about learning standardized tests and teachers are penalized for low test scores.

No Child Left Behind has left San Antonio behind, and we've got a long way to go now to catch up.

I'm Jim Joslyn, that's what we think.

Let's hear from you.
