HELOTES, Texas -- A development near Helotes is meeting with environmental concerns and several groups are planning to speak out over an additional request to establish a municipal water district in the area.
The San Antonio Water System denied water service to the developer of a 2,000-acre lot near Park Road 37 and Bandera, forcing the developer to write a letter to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requesting permission to create the water district.
The land rests over the Edwards Aquifer's recharge zone.
City councilors are expected to deny support for the letter at Thursday's meeting.
"Tomorrow, the staff is recommending that the staff go further than just denying and write to TCEQ and say, before you grant this we want you to have a hearing in which you hear us (and) our position," said Camille White with the Hill Country Alliance.
The developer is currently out of the country and could not be reached for comment. City officials said they would withhold comment until Thursday's meeting.
