Family Members React To Pregnant Woman's Accidental Death

Emily Barrientes Due To Give Birth At End Of May

Instead of celebrating a birth, family members of a pregnant woman killed in an accidental shooting Wednesday morning are planning a funeral.

Both Emily Barrientes and her unborn child were killed when a man cleaning his gun accidentally triggered the weapon and shot the 19-year-old woman in the head.

Sergio Soto, her boyfriend of six years, said they were documenting her pregnancy and had converted a room in the couple's apartment into a nursery bearing images of Winnie The Pooh.

"Everytime I cry, she always brings me up," Soto said. "I always like making her happy, spoil her, take her out.

"I don't even know what I'm going to do now."

The couple had named their soon-to-be-born daughter Diana Dee. Barrientes was scheduled to give birth at the end of the month.

"My whole life is gone," Soto said. "Everything we built, just out the door; I didn't get to see my baby girl be born... I don't know how she was even going to look like, you know."

Emily and her unborn child died after police said her twin sister's boyfriend accidentally shot his gun while cleaning it at a party.

The couple was staying with her twin sister and her boyfriend because the air conditioner had gone out in their apartment. Police questioned several witnesses at the home, but did not make any arrests. Investigators called the shooting an accident, but the district attorney will ultimately decide whether or not to file charges.
