SAN ANTONIO -- An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a gang-related shooting Monday in Balcones Heights.
Emmanuel Camacho Gomez, along with three others, was detained Tuesday afternoon by Balcones Heights police after investigators raided a home and seized a car they believe was involved in the Monday evening shooting death of 27-year-old Rose Anna Martinez.
Gomez was arrested later in the day and formally charged Wednesday morning.
Martinez was a passenger in a green Mercedes that was stopped at an intersection near Crossroads Mall when Gomez allegedly walked to the vehicle and began shooting, also striking and injuring 46-year-old Jose Lozano, police said.
Investigators are also awaiting word on whether a red-light camera may have documented the shooting. Police said a driver who witnessed the shooting was able to give investigators a description of the shooter's vehicle and a license plate number.
Balcones Heights Police Chief Bill Stannard said Gomez, a documented member of the prison-based Texas Syndicate gang, was preparing to leave the country when he was arrested.
Police also charged Gomez with a May 21 shooting where one man was shot in the face. Gomez is currently in the Bexar County Jail on a $550,000 bond.
