SAN ANTONIO -- Overcrowded conditions at Animal Care Services has forced facility operators to issue a five-day moratorium on accepting most animals.
Shelter officials said they've seen a 15 percent increase in the number of animals impounded since the facility opened, including almost 4,000 animals in the last month.
Other factors in the overcrowding include an extra day of waiting time before euthanization and an increase in people bringing in their unwanted animals.
Animal care employees will still handle the more serious calls, ACS director Jef Hale said, but they will not accept walk-ins for the remainder of the week.
