SAN ANTONIO -- Less than two weeks ago, a man's small act of love cost him his life, police said.
Evaristo Mena was stabbed to death in the early-morning hours of June 4 outside the Ric-Ron Taco House on the 300 block of East Mitchell Street. Investigators said he was attacked as he walked outside to buy flowers from his wife from a vendor.
"I have so many questions and I no answers as to why," widow Cynthia Mena said. "That's all I ask is why."
After the stabbing, Mena was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center, but died by the time the ambulance arrived, according to a police report.
"They said he lost too much blood and he couldn't hold any blood in his heart anymore," she said.
Mena leaves behind his wife and two children, including a daughter who turned 6 years old Monday.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of anybody involved in Mena's death. Anybody with information can call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-7867.
