Services For Slain Marine Finalized

Funeral services have been set for an area Marine who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Matthew Mendoza was killed one week ago, after previously serving two tours of duty in Iraq before being transfered to Afghanistan.

Mendoza will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Porter Loring Funeral Home at 1101 McCullough Ave..

A rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 618 South Grimes St. with a mass to follow at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mendoza will be laid to rest with full Marine Corps honors at San Jose Burial Park. He leaves behind a wife and 6-year-old son.

Flags at city offices will be flown at half-staff in his honor Friday.
