SAN ANTONIO -- Local fire officials were busy Tuesday preparing battle plans just in case brush fires get out of control over the Fourth of July.
San Antonio and Bexar County firefighters will have backup manpower from eight members of the Texas Forest Service.
In addition, three bulldozers will be ready to cut fire lines and Gov. Rick Perry dispatched two Blackhawk helicopters to Bexar County.
Specially trained Bexar County Public Works crews will be ready to help voluntary firefighters.
In addition, the San Antonio Police Department and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office will be on the lookout for anyone who violates a fireworks ban. Anyone setting off fireworks outside nine designated
fireworks safe zones will be ticketed, no questions asked. Violators face a $1,000 fine and possible jail time.
"There is no warning," said Bexar County Fire Marshal Orlando Hernandez. "So, don't think if you use fireworks you'll get away with a warning. You're actually going to receive a citation."
Anyone who has fireworks in their possession is urged to drop them off at the nearest fire station.
"We'll pick them up, no questions asked," said San Antonio Fire Marshal Earl Crayton.
Two hot lines have been set up for residents to report fireworks violations.
Residents in the city of San Antonio can call 210-207-0202 from 12 p.m. Wednesday through July 4.
Bexar County residents can call 210-335-FIRE (3473) from 4 p.m. July 3 through July 6.
Residents are urged not to call 911.
