SAN ANTONIO -- A meeting between a developer and its city counterpart about development near Camp Bullis has been postponed at the request of a city councilwoman.
District 8 City Councilwoman Diane Cibrian, also the chairwoman of the Camp Bullis Joint Land Use Study, asked for the meeting to be postponed until developers and representatives of the military installation can meet on an agreement to limit light output from the development. Military officials claim the excess light prevents proper training for overnight exercises.
"Through consultation with U.S. Fish & Wildlife, and the establishment of a habitat conservation plan, it may be possible for Camp Bullis to reduce the impact of the Golden Cheeked Warbler on the base," Cibrian said. "This may allow for expanded use on the property."
City officials have previously stated they would like to set aside 62 acres of undeveloped land near the base as well as establishing a 3-mile buffer zone around the camp that would be free of development.
