CANYON LAKE, Texas -- Comal County investigators are checking into the death of a 53-year-old woman at a home in Canyon Lake, calling it "questionable," but family and friends said they believe the case is a homicide.

Nancy Shields was found stabbed inside her home Friday, investigators said, but she died after being taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment.

Neighbors of Shields claim she was in an abusive relationship and that police were called many times to Shields' home for reports of domestic violence. The neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said Shields was a sweet woman who would never hurt herself.

Sheriffs' officials said they're questioning Shields' boyfriend as part of their investigation.
