Raulito: Emilio Still Recovering

Tejano singer Emilio Navaira continues to recover at a rehabilitation center in Galveston, Texas, and is waiting for the moment when he can thank his fans for their well-wishes, his brother said.

Raul Navaira said his brother has started to walk, speak with family members and has even tried singing.

"It wasn't his normal belt-out-his-guts, but he was singing the ballad, "Juntos," he said. "It's just going to take time."

Both Navaira brothers, along with their band Rio, were traveling through Houston on Easter Sunday following a concert when the bus Emilio Navaira was driving crashed, causing the singer to fly through the windshield and cause trauma to his brain, doctors said.

His brother's motor skills have been slowed by the injuries, Raul Navaira said, but the family is confident of his recovery.

"He knows what he's trying to tell you, but I guess he gets confused that the words don't come out right."

Raul Navaira, affectionately known as Raulito, said the family realizes it was a miracle everybody in the bus survived.

Emilio Navaira was intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to Houston-area law enforcement. Navaira was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in 2005 following a single-vehicle accident in San Antonio.

Navaira has not been charged in connection with the bus crash.
