Disaster Declaration Preceeds Storm Preparation

SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration Monday for 17 counties in anticipation of Tropical Storm Edouard's expected landfall Tuesday morning.

The declaration for Bexar County, along with 16 others, allows emergency preparations to begin, including the staging of 150 charter buses in San Antonio to serve as transportation for any evacuees.

About 1,200 National Guard troops, as well as six helicopters have also been activated along with Texas Task Force One, which is called in for water as well as urban search and rescue missions, according to officials at Port San Antonio.
