Medical Group To No Longer Accept Blue Cross

San Antonio Orthopaedic Group Says Policy Goes Into Effect In September

A group of orthopedic surgeons have sent letters to 8,400 patients informing them they will no longer accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas in the near future.

Dr. Marvin Brown, a member of San Antonio Orthopaedic Group, said the insurance company lowered the reimbursement rate for the doctors to the point it is losing money.

"This is an orthopaedic business and we have to pay rent, and pay for light and pay employees salaries and employees benefits," Brown said. "In fact, our own employees and myself and my family are covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. This was a very difficult decision for us to make."

The decision takes effect Sept. 18, Brown said.
