SAN ANTONIO -- One of the best known evacuees of Hurricane Ike happens to be a San Antonio resident.
Tejano singer Emilio Navaira was among those evacuated from Galveston where he was undergoing therapy after suffering massive head trauma in an Easter Sunday bus crash, but now he's back in San Antonio.
"He's been here a couple of days, and he's happy about that, and I mean, not happy about the hurricane, (but) happy about being home," brother Raul Navaira said.
Navaira was driving the bus carrying his brother, known as Raulito to their fans, and his bandmates from Rio. The singer's brother said they're anxious to get back on the road and tour again. Navaira was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to toxicology results.
"What's always on his mind is his family," he said. "He's worried about them. How am I going to pay the bills?"
Navaira said his brother plans to go back to Houston to visit his physicians, but they're not sure whether he'll stay in San Antonio for therapy now.
