Local Man Shows Off Electric Car

UPDATED: 10:16 pm CDT September 25, 2008

One San Antonio man is showing off his converted electric car and is hoping to introduce the concept to more residents.

Craig Egan has converted a 1949 Willis Jeep into a fully electric vehicle that can travel about 50 miles on a single charge and doesn't require maintenance, he said.

Egan has created the Alamo City Electric Car Club, which helps San Antonians with any questions they have when it comes to electric vehicles.

"What we like to do is to introduce folks to all the pros and cons of electric vehicles, that to look out for if you're looking at purchasing one, and encouraging people to join our car club society," said Egan.

Egan plans to hold monthly meetings at the Cody Library at 11441 Vance Jackson Road. The next meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 1.
