SAN ANTONIO -- Police said they found a dead man inside a burning home Wednesday evening, but it wasn't the fire that caused his death.
An unidentified man was found inside his home on the
500 block of Tampke Place on the city's northeast side, but San Antonio police said the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
"We found a shotgun in the back room. It looks like a suicide," SAPD Sgt. John Carey said. "Just don't know why he would have tried to burn the house down prior to doing that."
The man was found in a bathroom behind a barricaded door, Carey said.
Neighbors said the man lived at the home for about 10 years, but that he never spoke with anybody and rarely came out of his home. The dead man's name is not being released until his family is notified, police said.
