SAN ANTONIO -- Some residents of the struggling Mirasol Homes neighborhood are running out of time to purchase their homes and are blaming the national mortgage crisis as the major hindrance.
Even though many of the residents qualify for the San Antonio Housing Authority's Lease to Own program and have accumulated enough money to buy the home, their low credit scores are preventing them for making the purchases.
Residents are meeting with SAHA's senior staff to get one-on-one counseling over the situation, SAHA spokesman Gavino Ramos said, and the authority is planning to ask the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to extend the purchasing deadline.
