SAN ANTONIO -- Robert Galloway will do whatever it takes to catch people in the act.
Whether it's hiding in piles of dirt or posting as a street person, the private investigator will use his skills and technology to expose people who cheat on worker's compensation.
"It's a lot of fun when you catch these people," Galloway said in an interview with the Defenders. "They will say, 'Can't work' and get workman's comp from this company and go out and get another job."
The Defenders recently obtained video from Texas Mutual Insurance of people who cheated the system and were convicted of insurance fraud.
Texas Mutual Insurance caught Donald Miller, who claimed to have fractured his foot at work and was receiving disability benefits weekly, carrying a ladder and working at a home.
Another case exposed a woman who was supposed to have been using a wheelchair helping her husband hang Christmas lights.
Texas Mutual Insurance also caught Richard Supak, who claimed to have hurt his shoulder on the job and was getting benefits, clearly able to work.
"There's a lot of things they do when they say they're totally disabled," Galloway said.
And with a slumping economy, more people will try to cheat the worker's compensation system.
"The more fraud there is in the insurance industry, the higher your rates are," Galloway said.
