BULVERDE, Texas -- One week after a ballot initiative giving the city of Bulverde the power to annex property was defeated, the mayor said he's considering an alternative option of unincorporating the city.
Mayor Ray Jeffery said Bulverde, just north of San Antonio on Highway 281, is built out with no way to grow within city limits.
"We feel as though we're left in a sort of quandary," he said. "We cannot continue on under this form of government."
The way Bulverde is laid out, some vital city buildings are outside the city's limits, including the post office and the land behind the building.
"If you look at a map of the city of Bulverde, it's mystifying," Jeffery said.
At least one city official believes the thought of unincorporating is a bad idea.
"To sit here and say, well, one swipe of the hand (that) we're going to go ahead and unincorporate after working so hard to incorporate," Councilman Michael Sorbera said. "I just think it is silly."
Jeffery said he's not directly pushing for unincorporation, but that a decision should be made as to the city's future.
