18 wheeler erupts in flames after wrong-way crash
Police say driver of car slammed into the rig, torched cargo of car engines
A wrong-way crash ended with a big rig in flames and the driver of the car that hit it facing a DWI charge.
That crash happened on I-35 between Eisenhauer and Walzem just after 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police say the wrong-way car's driver slammed head-on into the 18 wheeler.
The rig went up in flames and the truck spilled diesel fuel on the highway.
The truck's driver and his passenger got out okay, but both went to SAMMC for treatment of their injuries.
Police say the wrong-way driver will face a DWI charge.
SAPD had to close I-35 for hours after the crash to clean up the burned mess.
Continuing work on the wreck and aftermath kept traffic running slow all day Saturday.
The rig's cargo of dozens of car engines was ruined,
Those torched engines sat Saturday in a parking lot a short distance from the crash and burn site.
