Army Chief Of Staff Presents Purple Hearts In SA

General Says Health Care Level Improving, But Still Needs More

While much has been done to improve the level of care for wounded military members, some issues still remain, said the U.S. Army's highest-ranking officer.

Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the current chief of staff of the Army and former commander of multi-national forces in Iraq was in San Antonio on Monday to bestow the Purple Heart on two Army specialists injured while serving in Iraq.

Casey Jr. said the Army has multiple conflicts when dealing with issues such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and brain injuries among its ranks.

"I think the more comprehensively we address all of the disabilities coming out of this war, the better we'll be with our homeless populations," he said.

Casey Jr. presented the Purple Heart to Army Spcs. Gregory A. Brazinsky and Robert L. Winegar Jr, both of whom were injured by improvised explosive devices in separate incidents earlier this year.

"He loves the Army," mother Linda Brazinsky said of her son. "I have a great daughter-in-law, and he's been through a lot. He's going to recover; that's the plus side of it."
