SAN ANTONIO -- A pair of doctors gave conflicting testimony Tuesday afternoon as the defense began its case in the trial of a man charged with causing sever injuires to a 2-year-old boy.
Dr. James Lukefaher told jurors in the trial of Miles Reynolds that the injuries suffered by Jonathan Lassetter were more consistent with physical abuse.
"It would have been a much more ... stronger impact, let's say, than what would have occurred during, you know, an ordinary household accident, such as a fall off of furniture or something of that nature," Lukefaher said.
After the prosecution completed its case, Reynolds' defense began its case with testimony from a clinical neurosurgeon. Dr. Ronald Ucynski testified that Reynolds' claims to police that Lassetter fell from a bed.
Reynolds, who is charged with injury to a child, told police that he believed that Jonathan fell from a bed when he was taken to a hospital with serious head and abdominal injuries in November 2005.
The defense is expected to continue its case Wednesday morning, but there is no word on whether Reynolds will tesitfy.
