SAN ANTONIO -- Dozens of residents at a north side apartment complex have been without water for two weeks and the complex owners are nowhere to be found.
Tenants at The Cove at
539 McCarty Road said they have been bringing their own water for their daily routines.
"Between 12 to 15 gallons of water a day to flush the toilet and to try to wash dishes, because you can't cook in a dirty kitchen," said Chris Rigney.
He said his rent's been paid, but the owner of the complex hasn't paid the water bill, now totaling more than $30,000.
"I feel used, like someone took this money that we worked hard to get a hold of," he said. "Money is not easy to come by, and in the long run, this guy is walking away with money without any repercussion for what's happening."
The owner of the apartment complex, John Warner of San Diego, couldn't be reached by KSAT 12 News. The leasing office at the complex is closed and Warner's number is disconnected. Rigney said the only notice residents were given was a letter allowing them to break their lease.
"We were told, 'Go find another apartment,'" he said.
Rigney said while there's no other option but to move, the added expenses of rental deposits and application fees make it tough to do so.
