SAN ANTONIO -- Instead of planning their holiday, the family of 22-year-old Danny Zamora is trying to scrape together money for his funeral.
Zamora was riding his bike to the store along
Austin Highway near Rainbow Drive on the city's northeast side late Sunday evening when he was struck and killed by two vehicles, police said.
"I didn't even get to kiss him goodbye," girlfriend Jennifer Yanez said. "He was always happy, he always have a beautiful smile on his face."
Yanez said her boyfriend left their house at about 8:45 p.m. to buy diapers for their child, but realized something was wrong when he hadn't returned an hour later.
"I had this weird instinct that something was wrong," she said.
Zamora was riding on Rainbow Drive when he crossed Austin Highway without stopping, according to the police report, and both vehicles struck him in succession.
Police said they didn't think either driver was at fault and didn't plan on filing charges.
