BEXAR COUNTY, Texas -- Continuing drought conditions across South Texas are forcing farmers and ranchers to make adjustments to survive.
Randall Rauschuber said his ranch's grazing prospects are very scarce and don't appear to be improving anytime soon.
"Right now, it's a little late," he said. "You're not going to get no spring grass. We can't get out and put no weed or oats or rye grass for any of these cattle to be grazing on."
Other ranchers said they're having similar problems, but one rancher's cattle are still in good shape as he's decided to supplement their diet with feed.
"Every day the costs are getting greater and greater," said Vince Franckowiack of St. Hedwig Feed and Supply.
While the drought helps Franckowiack's business in the short-term, he said he understands the problems that can arise with an extended drought.
"Here in the feed business, it's been real good," he said. "But at the same token, it's going to be detrimental long-term when everybody is out of business."
