SAN ANTONIO -- A man who kept police at bay for more than three hours Friday afternoon was found dead inside a home on the city's east side.
The standoff happened at a home at
459 Corliss St. near Interstate 10 and Martin Luther King Drive, and started about 2 p.m., police said.
After firing tear gas into the home about 4:45 p.m., SWAT officers entered the home and found the man dead. Police did not say how the man died, but they were still investigating.
Police officers were escorting a woman to her ex-boyfriend's home to pick up some belongings, said SAPD Chief Bill McManus, but when officers entered the home, the ex-boyfriend came out of a back room with a gun to his head and threatened to kill himself. The group backed out of the home and left the man alone inside.
"A short time later, we heard a muffled shot in the house," McManus said. "It's a possibility the suspect killed himself."
SWAT officers surrounded the home and a negotiation team was also called. Officers attempted to make contact with the man, but received no response. The man, who has not been identified, was wanted for allegedly shooting at his mother-in-law's home a few days ago, McManus said.
