NEW BRAUNFELS -- A huge grass fire in New Braunfels on Sunday scorched hundreds of acres of brush and threatened several homes before being extinguished.
While the fire was contained to a field near Interstate 35 and FM 306, the 3-foot-tall grass spread quickly and threatened homes at a nearby subdivision. Worried residents quickly got water hoses out and watered their homes and yards.
"It's the second time it actually happened here," said Michael Vergenz, a resident. "The first time, it wasn't as bad. But this one is ... much bigger."
Several fire departments were called out to battle the fire.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
