SAN ANTONIO -- A local U.S. Army sergeant has been thrust into the spotlight as the second woman to dance with President Barack Obama during one of his inauguration celebrations Tuesday evening.
Margaret Herrera, 24, was selected to represent the Army and invited to cut-in between the president and first lady Michelle Obama at the Commander-In-Chief Inaugural Ball.
"We haven't really had time to really talk, but I was so proud because we read her lips last night," mother Debbie Leal-Herrera said. "When he asked her where are you from, she said, 'San Antonio, Texas.' You could just read her lips."
Leal-Herrera said she's proud of her daughter's accomplishments as well as her service to her country. Herrera has already served one tour of duty in Kuwait and worked on the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, her mother said.
"I think it's going to be great for her children to see mama in the history books," Leal-Herrera said.
