SAN ANTONIO -- Public relations consultant T.J. Connolly has amended his lawsuit against the Bexar County District Attorney's office.
The original lawsuit, filed in October of last year and seeking damages of $1 million, has since been increased by about $500,000. Connolly, arrested in May 2008 and charged with violating election codes for illegal campaign funding, said he never should have been taken into custody -- a point the district attorney's office doesn't dispute.
"There was apparently a mistake by a deputy that arrested Mr. Connolly on a warrant that was issued against his corporation," said Cliff Herberg of the district attorney's office. "There was a confusion there, but our office has nothing to do with that. We don't control the sheriff's department."
Herberg said that despite the deputy's actions, he was acting in good faith, and that Connolly's lawsuit has no merit.
Connolly is
accused of funding a candidate for the Bexar Metropolitan Water District's board through his corporation, Connolly and Company. At the time the donations were made, Connolly was the spokesman for BexarMet. The
public relations executive admitted to KSAT 12 News during a November interview that he made the donations, but said he did nothing wrong.
