HazMat Clears Olmos Park Situation

POSTED: Friday, March 13, 2009
UPDATED: 4:42 pm CDT March 13, 2009

A hazardous materials investigation that closed a shopping center in Olmos Park is over.

The material, previously described as a brown or yellow powdery substance, turned out to be contents from a fire extinguisher spread into a vacant building inside The Yard shopping center on the 5200 block of McCullough Avenue.

The owner of one of the shops thought there was a break-in, but discovered a yellow powder on the floor of one of the rooms, investigators said. Police were called, who then contacted the fire department and the Bexar County Hazardous Materials team.

HazMat crews are beginning to clear the scene.
