POTEET, Texas -- A Poteet game room owner shot and killed a shotgun-wielding man who was trying to rob his business, Atascosa County sheriff's officials said.
Chief Deputy David Soward said that two men walked into Larry's Game Room at around 11:50 p.m. on Highway 16 a few miles north of Poteet and ordered a clerk to the floor.
"They fired a round into the ceiling," Soward said.
The game room owner then went to get his .40 caliber pistol, and when he returned he yelled at the men, Soward said. Moments later, the man with the shotgun wheeled toward the owner, who shot the man in the head, Soward said. The man died at the scene.
The other man got away, but Soward said they know who he is and is being sought.
No identities have been released.
The lawman added that it appears the business was running an illegal operation involving slot-type machines called eight-liners and will be shut down in the next couple of days.
