SAN ANTONIO -- Visitors to downtown will have extra sets of eyes watching over as the San Antonio Police Department is preparing to turn on surveillance cameras at various locations.
The cameras, yet to be turned on, will be at five locations around downtown San Antonio, including
Travis Park, said SAPD spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez.
"That information will be sent over immediately as it's happening," she said. "It's going to be live information back to those officers so we can immediately respond to them."
The cameras have been erected, but won't be turned on until at least May, Gutierrez said, much to the chagrin of one park visitor.
"People come out here to enjoy themselves, not to be watched over," said Travis Park patron Jesse Alviar.
According to Gutierrez, the other cameras will be placed at:
East Commerce and St. Mary's streets near the Aztec Theatre Losoya and East Commerce streets near the Torch of Friendship South Alamo and East Market streets near the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center East Commerce and Soledad streets near Main Plaza
