Barn Near Yorktown Heavily Damaged By High Winds

NEAR YORKTOWN, Texas -- A powerful storm ripped through DeWitt County on Monday.
Winds clocked up to 100 mph snapped a utility pole and nearly destroyed a barn in Gruenau outside of
Yorktown.

View Storm DamageEdward Mann, a dairy farmer who lives off Highway 119, said he knew it was going to rain, but he didn't expect the wicked winds.
"I was fooling around outside and I come in the house, and said, 'Looks like we're gonna get a little rain,' so I sat down and ate a bowl of ice cream, looked out the northwest window and I could see it coming up there. It wasn't long, and boy, she come through."
Mann, who wasn't injured, said he thinks a tornado caused the damage, but the National Weather Service hadn't made any confirmation.
The storm also dumped heavy rain that triggered flooding in the county.
