SAPD Testing New Warrant Tech

POSTED: Friday, June 12, 2009
UPDATED: 6:36 pm CDT June 12, 2009

A process that previously took hours has a solution being tested that could reduce the time necessary to obtain warrants significantly, San Antonio police said.

Five Bexar County judges will be using web cams to administer oaths to officers seeking warrants and electronically sign warrants rather than an officer having to appear in court and have physical signatures.

"It allows SAPD to perform a search that much faster," said Assistant Police Chief Harry Griffin. "Less paper and admin time allows officers to patrol neighborhoods."

The hope, Griffin said, is to have all city and county judges equipped with the new technology.
