SAN ANTONIO -- Local attorney Joe James Sawyer has begun a fight for his client against Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed.
Sawyer alleged that Reed waited to indict Raymond Lemes two years after he shot 19-year-old Tracy Glass because of political ambition. Lemes told police he chased Glass out of his home after Glass broke in August 2007. Glass' family told police he was confused after a night out and accidentally went inside the wrong home. Jones said Lemes thought Glass was trying to rob him.
"At that time an intruder moved towards him, and Ray shot and killed him," Jones said.
Jones has also argued that Reed has ignored the fact that Lemes had a right to defend his home from intruders.
"Right now every thief, rapist, burglar is cheering 'Susan Reed' at the top of his lungs," Jones said. "She has sent a clear message, to chill the rights of people who own and bear weapons in this county."
Reed said she has done nothing wrong and isn't using any case for political ambition.
"To suggest that I have done this for some reason other than just following the process and letting it work the way its supposed to under the law is false." Reed said.
Lemes has been released on $75,000 bond, one day after a grand jury decided he should be put on trial for shooting Glass.
