Two people are dead and one man is fighting for his life after a horrific Wednesday morning wreck in Atascosa County.
Department of Public Safety investigators said the accident occurred just before 7 a.m. on FM 476 near Rogers Road, just outside of Poteet.
Investigators said a man driving a 1997 Pontiac -- identified by DPS as 27-year-old Daniel Ray Rivera -- was driving west on FM 476, possibly towards him home in Poteet, when he veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a 1997 Honda, driven by Dwayne Lawrence Depute, 29, of Poteet.
Investigators said the Honda burst into flames, killing the two people inside, Depute and 33-year-old Columbus Wayne Norment, of Poteet. DPS investigators said Depute and Norment were burned beyond the point of recognition.
Rivera was taken to University Hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition.
Investigators don't know how fast the man were going, but there was a 70 mph speed limit posted near the accident.
They also don't know what caused the accident, but said Rivera didn't hit his brakes nor did he take evasive action.
