Police say passenger, driver of car killed when vehicle struck by freight train in Killeen

KILLEEN, Texas (AP) — Police say two people have been killed after their car went around barriers at a Central Texas railroad crossing and was hit by a freight train.

Killeen police say the accident happened early Friday. Names of the man driving the vehicle and his female passenger were not immediately released.

Police say the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train was westbound and the highway crossing barricades were down. Investigators say the driver went around the barriers and the car was struck on the passenger's side.

Both victims were dead at the scene.
