KERRVILLE, Texas – A shooting Friday in Kerr County claimed the lives of a boy and his adopted mother, Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said.
The victims were identified as Jeremiah Cormier, who is believed to be 10 or 11 years old, and Candace Cormier, believed to be in her mid- to late 50s.
The boy's adopted father, Mark Cormier, 53, was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.
Asked if the incident was a double murder-suicide, Hierholzer said, "That's very possible, but I'm not going to speculate on any of that until we get through the evidence at the scene."
Hierholzer said Mark Cormier managed to get to a neighbor's home off the 2500 block of Goat Creek Road at Shalako Estates around 6:30 a.m. The neighbor alerted the Sheriff's Office.
"It is a very complex scene. There's multiple gunshots fired inside the home. It will take us most of today and probably tonight to process the scene," he said.
Hierholzer said there was no forced entry to the home and that the entire incident happened inside the residence. He didn't say what type of weapon was used.
Hierholzer said Mark Cormier owned a chimney sweep company and Candace Cormier worked at a realty company. The couple had been married four or five years.
