Two men sought in connection with shooting at East Side motel

41-year-old man wounded in leg after arguing, breaking window, police say

SAN ANTONIO – Police are trying to locate two people involved in a shooting reported around 9 p.m. near Interstate 10 and North W.W. White Road.

The victim told police that two men assaulted him during a dispute and one of them threatened him with a gun.

After they went into a motel room, the victim used his fist to break out a window, police said.

One of the men fired several shots, hitting the victim in the leg, police said.

"I peeked out a little, and I saw one person beckoning to someone else, and I went back inside," said Disraeli Hutton, who was staying in another room across the parking lot. "Within minutes, I heard shots ring out."

Officers arrived a short time later.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Police said the two men involved in the shooting were last seen driving off in a white SUV.

Police said they attempted to question a witness who knows them, but she refused to cooperate.

Hutton, who is in town from Jamaica for a business conference, said he was surprised.

"I thought I would experience a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Persons are generally friendly, but I was kind of taken aback," he said.

According to motel workers, it was the second violent incident this week involving a guest.

In an unrelated shooting earlier this week, Johnathan Ashford, 34, was killed in a parking lot just down the road, near South W.W. White Road and Interstate 10.

Police said William Perkins Jr., 39, shot and killed Ashford in a confrontation related to a love triangle. Perkins had been having an affair with Ashford's wife, police said.

Motel employees said Ashford had recently been staying there off and on.
