SAN ANTONIO - A builder tells North East Independent School District that two schools under construction won't be ready for the first day of school.
Summit Builders, which is building Vineyard Ranch and Las Lomas elementary schools, said Wednesday that they would miss the July 16 completion date.
Students who were to attend Vineyard Ranch will instead go to Tuscany Heights, Wilderness Oak, and Hardy Oak. Students who were to attend Las Lomas will instead go to Canyon Ridge and Stone Oak.
Students may be at the other schools for up to one semester.
NEISD said the issue stems from sub-contractors leaving jobs at both sites, forcing the contractor to find replacements.
Beginning July 16, NEISD plans on penalizing Summit Builders $2,500 per day per school for each day that the opening is delayed due to construction.
