HOUSTON -

A man died after at least two tornadoes reportedly touched down in the Houston-area on Christmas Day.

One person was killed in northwest Harris County near Tomball when a tree fell on them, authorities said.

According to investigators, the man, 25, was trying to remove a tree when another tree fell on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputy Thomas Gilliland said.

The National Weather Service says a tornado was reported in Trinity County and another in Houston County.

He said it appears only one building was damaged in the East Texas city of Crockett in Houston County.

The National Weather Service cancelled tornado watches for 16 counties in Texas.

The severe storms resulted from a meeting between a cold front and warmer Gulf air.
