SAN ANTONIO -- A fundraising campaign is under way in San Antonio to build a new library and museum dedicated to teaching the history of Hispanic culture in Texas.
The Hispanic Heritage Center on Wednesday announced plans to construct the museum in the heart of San Antonio.
The plan is to include a "history village" where men and women will dress in period clothing from 1835 to teach visitors about life around the time of the Texas Revolution, which was fought from October 2, 1835, to April 21,1836.
"The reason for the history village is to tell the story of why there was a fight at the Alamo, why they were fighting and dying there," said Hispanic Heritage Center chairman Rudi Rodriguez.
Hispanic Heritage Center officials are looking for a permanent location but hope to have a temporary building near Hemisphere Park.
