Matthew Salazar, 22, who was arrested in connection with a series of car burglaries in 2010, faces a new round of charges for the same type of crime

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that one of the victims of this latest crime wave is a Department of Public Safety trooper whose car was burglarized at his North side apartment complex in July.

At that time, the trooper reported that a handgun, ammunition and protective gear were taken from the car.

The affidavit stated that Texas Rangers and DPS investigators later received information that led them to another suspect, Joshua Slush, 22.

They said during questioning, Slush (pictured at left) gave information about several other car burglaries and car thefts he had committed, and told them Salazar (pictured at right) also was involved, the affidavit stated.

Investigators said they searched an apartment that Slush and Salazar shared and found several parts from stolen cars.

Slush was arrested in September.

Salazar was booked into jail Tuesday. Charges against him include burglary of a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Records show both Salazar and Slush also were arrested in 2010 in connection with a series of car break-ins. Investigators at that time said the two were working together.
