SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Food Bank is getting some much-needed help when it needs it most.
Wal-Mart on Monday donated $75,000 and a new refrigerator truck to the nonprofit agency.
H-E-B also announced that it is giving the Food Bank $85,000 in donations and sponsorships and have challenged other corporations to do the same.
Mayor Julian Castro said the donations are proof of what sets San Antonio apart from other cities.
"One of the measures of the sophistication of a city is it's compassion," Castro said.
The donations come at a time when the Food Bank has seen an increase of 92 percent for its services.
"Families that never thought they would ever have to ask for food are coming through our door," said Food Bank Executive Director Eric Cooper.
