SAN ANTONIO -- A program designed to help dropouts learn a trade and get a GED broke ground on a new project Wednesday that will provide a family with a new home.
The San Antonio Youth Centers’ High YouthBuild program broke ground on the home in the 200 block of Jemison Street. The home will be built with the help of Zachry Construction Company, Speegle Davis Architecture and Ryland Homes and it will be built in accordance with the City of San Antonio’s Build San Antonio Green requirements.
The program allows students who have dropped out of high school to learn a trade and earn a GED.
Two participants said they are excited about the possibilities ahead of them.
“They will be teaching us about everything, about building from the top to bottom,” participant Rick Trevino said.
“This is a good opportunity for me, so this is probably what I’m going to go with,” Ben Garcia said.
Mayor Julian Castro there for the groundbreaking and wished the crew luck with the project.
