SAN ANTONIO -- It’s entrepreneurs helping entrepreneurs.
Dean McCall and his group, the Idea Finishing School, are setting out to do something that is so far not being done in San Antonio, building a new economic base from the ground up.
"There has never been any sort of ecosystem for entrepreneurship in San Antonio,” said McCall.
McCall and his partners, Rudy De La Garza and Linda Mills, want to build up San Antonio’s technology production base. McCall said he wants the Alamo City to join the information technology party.
"Really want to create that Austin, Silicon Valley-vibe in San Antonio," he said.
The idea is to bring in new ideas, McCall said, stating they have put together a group of investors ready to assist with $60,000 worth of services.
"The idea behind it is to help companies figure out the things that they don’t know how to do,” said McCall. "Typically, you’ve got marketing, you’ve got financials, you’ve got technical due diligence ... those things aren't things most entrepreneurs typically focus on."
During a 4- to 6-month course, the Idea Finishing School will focus on those things. McCall said they are
taking applications on their Web site and said they will review the ideas. Those that look like moneymakers will get funded, and after the course, McCall said they hope to have another business planted in San Antonio.
