SAN ANTONIO -- A 22-year-old illegal immigrant has been arrested in the beating and stabbing death of a 28-year-old homeless man.
Wilbur Rodriguez was charged with murder and is being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Sgt. Chris Benavides, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, said that undercover detectives received a tip that Rodriguez was at an apartment complex on Dollar Hide.
According to a detective working the case, a witness to the crime came forward and identified Rodriguez as the killer. The witness told police that Rodriguez and the victim were drinking and got into an argument.
The victim, who has not been identified, was found early Sunday morning under a bridge at West Commerce and Calder. An autopsy revealed the victim had more than a dozen puncture wounds to his neck.
Investigators said Rodriguez is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who was deported in April but ended up back in San Antonio.
