BANDERA, Texas -- It's that time of year that small Texas towns that cater to hunters look forward to most.

Whitetail deer season gets underway Saturday, and that means hunters flooding rural areas with not only deer corn, but their dollars as well.

"The hunters are part of the overall economic impact that we have," said Paul Fuentes, president of the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce. "And every year, for as long as this county has been around, we could always rely on that source of income to help the economy here in Bandera."

As summer drew to a close, concerns that the quality of the deer to be harvested could be compromised due to the historic drought were very real. The last two months have ushered in copious amounts of rain, however, which leads many wildlife biologists to believe the season will be as good as ever.

Good news not only for hunters, but for the small town businesses who rely on their spending.

"Not only do the landowners profit from it, but we have our grocery stores, our hardware stores. It an all-around boon to the economy," said Patricia Moore, director of the Bandera Convention and Visitors Bureau.
